Bennett Colp

Bennett Colp, approximately 9 years old at DOT Marine Radio Station in Canso, around 1925

As happenstance would have it, I received a scanned photo of my late father-in-law (Bennett Colp) who was a marine staff sargent in the RCMP, a former radio operator on a few RCMP ships and during the War, a radio operator in Iceland.

The photo below shows him as a kid (guessing at about 9 yr old) sitting at the radio operator's desk of the DOT station in Canso, manned by his brother-in-law, one Ernie Clare.  Below are a few comments from my brother-in-law.

" Since Dad was born in 1915 and he looks about 9 in the photograph I would guess this was about 1925 or so. This Department of Transport marine radio station was called Canso but I think it is actually at Hazel Hill just outside of Canso. My dad was also at Red Head outside Saint John and at Sambro.
