Meet...Jim Klassen

By Jennifer Coles

Jim Klassen first joined Industry Canada’s Spectrum branch in December 1990 as a Radio Inspector. In November 2000 he was promoted to the Manager of the Spectrum group in Edmonton. Jim is proud to say he has completed his French language training at the “B” level, which was one of the most challenging courses he has ever taken.

Jim’s clients range from the smallest two-way radio user to the largest broadcast company. He is currently the regional representative for the SEED (Spectrum E-services B-com Delivery) Partnership initiative and is also involved in the ongoing DTH (direct-to-home satellite) investigation.

The diversity of the challenges found in Spectrum is what Jim likes most about his job. He also enjoys the person-to-person contact with his co-workers and colleagues and can often be found exercising his strong sense of humour (as per Tim Richardson’s nickname “Timmy Pancakes” that he keeps alive and well). You will have to ask Jim or Tim for that story.

Jim has both a son (two and a half years) and a daughter (five years) at home and says that they manage to constantly keep him on his toes. With the (little) spare time he has, Jim and his wife enjoy both golfing in the summer and playing volleyball in the winter.

“The diversity of the challenges found in Spectrum is what Jim likes most about his job.”
