''St Elmo Jim''
Another who remembers the early stages of radio is St. Elmo “Jim” Meiss, who with his wife Jessie, lives at 2958 Orillia.
Jim, born in Victoria 70 years ago, exchanged Morse for Continental code when he left the CPR Telegraph at the corner of Trounce Alley and Government to join the early day Radiotelegraph branch.
He wound up his 45 years with the coast wireless in 1958, retiring as Senior Radio Inspector for Vancouver Island . Another of the ‘Windblown’, he did two shifts, totaling 19 ½ months, at Triangle Island.
