Hi Ron:

Thank you for the info you sent me on the former site of the Almonte Monitoring Station. I note it was on Highway 29 between Almonte (now Mississipi Mills) and Carleton Place. My grandson lives in Almonte so I went to check the site during my last visit.

I note that the road going into the site is almost abandoned. I also see a building in the far field. Is it the old monitoring station building ? See Google Earth aerial photos below.

Hi Don:

Good to hear from you.

The building at the end of the apparent road was built there by the RCMP when they occupied the site . It may have been used as a firing range. The building used by the monitoring station has been torn down.

Sorry  I am a bit busy/disorganized these days. We moved from Nepean to Amberwood village, Stittsville recently.....my hard drive failed....my real old photos of Almonte are still in boxes some where in a very messy basement !!!

I did pass on a pile of stuff about the monitoring station to Laval years ago and I wonder how much you have....do feel free to ask....I'll do my best to recall and answer.

Cheers to all

Ron
