1974 New licensing policy proposed
The department's proposed new policy for licensing very high capacity microwave systems to be used in connection with cable television was released for public comment in November.
The band 12.7 to 12.95 Gigahertz is to be set aside for such uses as linking a CATV company's head end with cable distribution facilities or connecting a common receiving site to a number of separate cable systems.
This proposed band is not intended exclusively for cable TV undertakings, however. Other users requiring shorthop, high-capacity links might also be licensed to use it. The proposed policy allows for expansion of the band to an upper frequency limit of 13.25 GHz, in the event of future need.
Copies of the draft policy and the accompanying working paper may be obtained from DOC regional offices in Moncton, Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver, or from the Director-General, National Telecommunications Branch, Department of Communications, Ottawa K1A OC8.
1974 Projet de réglementation pour la délivrance des licences
Le Ministère a rendu public en novembre un nouveau projet de réglementation pour la délivrance de licences d'exploitation de systèmes à micro-ondes de très grande capacité qui seront utilisés par les systèmes de télédiffusion par câble.
La bande de 12,7 à 12,95 GHz sera réservée à des usages spéciaux, par exemple : relier la station principale d'une société de câblovision aux installations de câblodiffusion ou brancher plusieurs réseaux de câbles à une station réceptrice centrale.
Toutefois, cette bande ne servira pas exclusivement à la câblodiffusion. Le Ministère délivrera des licences aux usagers qui désirent bénéficier d'un service de transmission à grande capacité sur courte distance. Si le besoin s'en fait sentir, il sera possible éventuellement de porter la fréquence maximale à 13,25 GHz.
