Fort Smith students get radio training

The department's Fort Smith district office in the Northwest Territories introduced grade eight and nine students at the Joseph Burr Tyrell High School to amateur radio last winter. The district office undertook the project as a community service at the request of school officials.

District staff held eight one-hour sessions on amateur radio at the school. Students received additional training by operating the Fort Smith Amateur Radio Club station VE8AAA.

Interest in the project, district staff say, may result in an evening and weekend amateur radio course being offered at the school for high school students wishing to obtain amateur certificates.

L'ABC de la radioamateur pour des étudiants de Fort Smith

A la demande des autorités scolaires, le personnel du bureau de district de Fort Smith, Territoires du Nord-Ouest, a entrepris, en décembre dernier, d'initier à la radioamateur les élèves des 8e et 9e années du Joseph Burr Tyrell High School.

Le personnel a donné une série de huit cours d'une heure. Les élèves ont eu l'occasion d'acquérir une expérience pratique en utilisant le poste de la station VE8AAA du Club de radioamateurs de Fort Smith.

Il est maintenant question de donner des cours le soir et pendant la fin de semaine aux élèves de niveau secondaire qui désirent obtenir leur certificat de radioamateur.
