Senator Murray named Acting Minister

 

As Communications Ex­press went to press, the Prime Minister announced that the Honourable Lowell Murray would be the Acting Minister of Communications.

 

Summoned to the Senate in 1979, Senator Murray was Co­chairman of the Joint Senate­House of Commons Committee on Official Languages from 1980 to 1984.

 

From 1984 until 1986, he was Chairman of the Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce. During the same period, he was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Institute for Research on Public Policy. He was the Minister Responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency from June 1987 to September 1988.

 

On June 30, 1986, Senator Murray was sworn in as a member of the Privy Council and was appointed Leader of the Government in the Senate and Minister of State (Federal­Provincial Relations).

 

Senator Murray, a native of Nova Scotia, is married and the father of two sons.
